If your business accepted or processed a Misclassified Card Transaction with a Discover credit or debit card between January 1, 2007 through December 31, 2023, you could soon be eligible to receive compensation as part of the Discover Merchant Settlement. While there isn't a claim form available yet and the court has not yet set a deadline to file, smart businesses are already taking steps to prepare.
At Certificate Clearing Corporation, we've seen an uptick in interest as more merchants learn about this case - and for good reason: this could be another opportunity to recover significant funds, like the Visa/Mastercard Interchange Fee Settlement.
What is the Discover Merchant Settlement?
This class action lawsuit alleges Discover misclassified certain Discover-issued consumer credit cards as commercial credit cards, causing merchants and others to incur excessive interchange fees. The proposed $1.2 billion settlement is still pending final approval, but if you accepted those Discover cards during the relevant period, you may be entitled to a share of the fund once claims open.
You can view official updates on the settlement website, or visit our dedicated CCC case page where we'll continue posting updates as they become available.
How Merchants Can Prepare Now
Even though you can't file just yet, there are a few key steps you can take today to make the process faster and easier later:
1. Locate Your Payment Processing Records
Start gathering records from January 2007 to December 2023 that show your Discover card transaction volumes. These could include:
2. Verify Eligibility Across Your Business Entities
Many companies operate under multiple names, DBAs, or tax IDs. We can help ensure you don't miss out on recoveries across any of your eligible entities.
3. Talk to Us About Claim Monetization
We don't just file claims. We also offer to purchase eligible claims upfront so you can lock in value now instead of waiting months (or years) for final distributions.
If You Filed for Visa/Mastercard, This May be For You
Merchants who filed for the Visa/Mastercard class action settlement are especially well-positioned for Discover. If you've already gone through the process once - or had us do it for you - chances are we can help you again with minimal lift.
Let us keep an eye on the deadlines, documents, and details so you don't have to.
Don't miss your chance. When this settlement opens for claims, we'll be ready - and we'll make sure our clients are too. Whether you want us to handle your claim from start to finish or explore a cash offer, we're here to help.
