$700 Million Mercedes-Benz Settlement
Mercedes-Benz Emissions Litigation, Civil Action No. 16
VW Diesel Emissions Scandal

Who qualified?

If you previously owned a Mercedes-Benz BlueTEC II Diesel vehicle listed below, you were eligible to receive a payment from the $700M Mercedes-Benz Settlement. The deadline to file for past owners was July 12, 2021. The deadline to file for current owners was October 1, 2022. Note: Car dealerships did qualify.

Was this the same as Diesel Gate?

If auto manufacturers should learn anything from the VW Diesel Emissions scandal, it is that concealing information or lying about your business practices will cost you. VW settled with three federal agencies for $14,700,000,000 ($14.7 Billion), who sued over their deceitful business practices. Fast forward to 2021 and Mercedes-Benz has now settled for over $3,000,000,000 ($3 Billion) for allegedly installing a software feature that reduced emission output while their vehicles were being tested by regulators.

What was the settlement amount?

The settlement paid over $700,000,000 to owners of eligible vehicles and software updates were also made to comply with federal regulators.

How large was the class?

The litigation included around 250,000 Mercedes-Benz BlueTEC II diesel vehicles and Sprinter vans sold in the U.S between 2009 and 2016 that allegedly used emissions cheating software.

How did I know if I qualified?

Class Members and their monetary benefits generally fell into three categories:

1. Current owners and lessees whose Subject Vehicle received an AEM, and who submitted a Valid Claim received $3,290. Or, if an Eligible Former Owner or Eligible Former Lessee also submitted a Valid Claim for that same vehicle, current owners/lessees received $2,467.50. Most Class Members were current owners or lessees.

2. Eligible Former Owners and Former Lessees received up to $822.50 for each vehicle, which was divided equally among the Eligible Former Owners and Eligible Former Lessees who submitted Valid Claims related to the same vehicle.

3. Eligible Post-Announcement Owners and Eligible Post-Announcement Lessees whose Subject Vehicle received an AEM and who submitted a Valid Claim received $2,467.50 per Subject Vehicle

Was there an official claim website?

You were able to file a claim on your own by going to the settlement website: https://www.mbbluetecsettlement.com.

However, less than 5% of eligible claimants typically file claims. It is tedious to file on your own and challenging when questions arise as administrators do not have representatives to answer your calls.
