Case Name: Facebook, Inc. Consumer Privacy User Profile Litigation
Court: Northern District of California
Case No: 3:18-md-02843-VC
Settlement Fund: $725,000,000
Deadline: 8/25/2023 (PASSED)
If you have been following the Facebook privacy cases you know that Meta has been sued over countless data privacy issues. In Illinois they settled for over $600M and now a nationwide settlement for $725M is on the line. The deadline was now over a year ago. What's up with this?
Folks who filed a claim should rest assured that the settlement process is still ongoing. Objectors have filed two separate appeals, and such actions take time. The administrator says :it is likely that the appeal will not be set for hearing until the first half of 2025 or later." See below for more.

Here is the latest update from the claims administrator in full.
UPDATE (current as of 8/21/2024): On October 10, 2023, following a hearing, the United States District Court for the Northern District of California issued an Order Granting Motion for Final Approval of Settlement, an Order Awarding Attorneys’ Fees, Expenses, and Service Awards and a Final Judgment.
Based on the current schedule, it is likely that the appeal will not be set for hearing until the first half of 2025 or later. After that, there will be an additional delay before the appeal is decided, and there could be additional proceedings that could further delay the distribution of settlement benefits after the appeal is decided. Updates on status will be provided on the settlement website as more information becomes available. We thank you in advance for your patience.
