With the new year well on its way, we want Mercedes BlueTec car owners to get their fair share of the $750M Mercedes BlueTec Class Action Settlement. Although the settlement will provide substantial relief to vehicle owners, there is a list of requirements you must first do before filing. Given Mercedes allegedly installed deceptive emission devices, the Settlement Agreement states owners must first have an approved emissions modification (AEM) installed prior to filing a claim. Now, what does the AEM installation process look like?

If you have an eligible vehicle, you can visit https://bluetecupdate.mbusa.com/home  and schedule an AEM to be installed. You will need to use your VIN to find the next available times but note Mercedes can only produce and install so many AEMs so you may need to wait. Given this shortage in AEMs, the Judge approved a clause in the class action settlement that allows vehicle owners to still file a claim in the scenario an AEM is not available in time.

If an AEM is not made available by October 1, 2022, Class Members who own or lease an affected Registered Subject Vehicle at that time may file a claim by November 30, 2022 for the following payment:

For Model Year 2014 – 2016, you will receive $2632 if no Eligible Former Owner/ Lessee submits a valid claim for the same vehicle or $1974 if an eligible former owner/ lessee submits a valid claim for the same vehicle.

For Model Year 2012 – 2013, you will receive $1974 if no Eligible Former Owner/ Lessee submits a valid claim for the same vehicle or $1480.5 if an eligible former owner/ lessee submits a valid claim for the same vehicle.

For Model Year 2009 – 2011, you will receive $987 if no Eligible Former Owner/ Lessee submits a valid claim for the same vehicle or $740.25 if an eligible former owner/ lessee submits a valid claim for the same vehicle.

Certificate Clearing Corporation knows that for some owners, taking your vehicle or several vehicles to an authorized Mercedes dealership can be a huge hassle, and dealing with a lag in AEM installation wait times just makes matters worse. Lastly, there are certain states in which the vehicles can no longer be re-registered since they do not meet emissions standards without an AEM and in these cases, Mercedes will offer to repurchase the vehicle for an amount equal to its value according to Manheim Market Report.
